Coach
After attending Brooks as a student, Ries returned to campus in 2003 and is now an associate director of admission. While she has always had a foot in the admission office, she also has taught English, Journalism, and has been a Form Dean in the Deans Office. Ries earned a B.A. from Holy Cross, where she served as the captain of the girls hockey team, and an M.Ed. from the University of Massachusetts. After coaching varsity ice hockey and softball for many years, she now coaches the mighty 3rds soccer team. Ries has resided in a dorm in a dorm the duration of her time here and currently lives in PBA Hall with her husband, Dave, who coaches the varsity boys ice hockey team, along with their children, Ellie, Little Dave, and Lucy. The family enjoys retreating to their home in southern Maine when they have rare moments of free time.

CoachLaila McCain (she/her) joined Brooks in the fall of 2022 as a Davis Fellow. She transitioned later that fall to a full time history teacher and as an admission counselor. Beginning in summer 2026, McCain moved into the student life office as the associate dean of community and belonging. McCain is passionate about inclusion and equity work. She grew up in Boston and attended Bowdoin College, where she studied government and legal studies as well as education, with a minor in Africana studies. Post-college, she spent a year living Germany, working at the International School of Stuttgart in their English department and in learning support. She is currently working part-time on her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy at Boston College. At Brooks, McCain lives on campus in Gardner House with her partner Zeke and their husky, Kyber. In her free time she enjoys traveling as well as reading, cooking/baking and spending time with friends and family.
