Afternoon music is offered in the fall and spring terms only, six days a week. The program is limited to 12 students. Students are required to complete a request form which includes permission of the instructor.
During the year the theater produces three major productions. These typically include a fall comedy/drama, a winter musical and a spring production. All major productions rehearse during the afternoon activities period to be staged on campus. In addition, there are showcase opportunities for playwrights, actors and directors throughout the year. There are also extensive performance opportunities for musicians at Brooks. Performance ensembles for vocalists include three a cappella groups and Gospel Choir, and for instrumentalists the Jazz Band, Chamber Ensemble and three rock bands. Many students take private vocal or instrumental lessons with Brooks’ adjunct music faculty, often performing in recitals at the end of the semester.
Please refer to materials included in the spring mailing for information regarding lesson enrollment, billing and add/drop policies. The music center has many practice rooms that remain open until 10 P.M. on weeknights and until 9 P.M. on weekends in order to facilitate individual or group practice. Students wishing to pursue intensive musical study may also submit proposals for independent projects in music. Fifth-formers and sixth-formers may participate in afternoon music with permission of the Music Department.
