Glenalmond College in Scotland
Brooks began its exchange program at Glenalmond College in Perth in 2000. One of Scotland’s leading co-educational boarding and day schools, Glenalmond opened as a boys’ school in 1847 – 80 years before Brooks. Located in the Scottish Highlands on a 300-acre campus, Glenalmond enrolls about 400 students. In 1990, it admitted girls for the first time; today the boy-to-girl ratio is about 2:1. Complementing Glenalmond’s strong academic program is a range of extra-curricular and sporting activities.

Erin B. Doherty ’01 of Washington, D.C. | "My experience in the exchange program opened a world of opportunity and built my self-confidence. I might never have chosen to attend St. Andrews for a semester had I not spent time there in high school. After starting Middlebury, I began immediately thinking about where I wanted to go next. My experience at Glenalmond and then at St. Andrews gave me confidence to know I could go wherever I wanted to on my own, like studying at the University of Otago. I still love to travel and regularly write friends abroad and have been able to use these contacts to help friends when traveling or when looking to study or work abroad."

The Brooks School Exchange Program, founded in 1986, promotes the global education of students from Brooks and its partner schools in Botswana, Hungary, Scotland, Spain, France and Peru. By living abroad as residents in other school communities, our students are challenged to extend themselves to another place, another culture, another people – and, most importantly, to be affected by them, to be changed by them. We are confident that experiencing this transformative process of enculturation makes our students more empathetic and engaged global citizens.
