The October Summit elicited terrific feedback from attendees. As a result of those conversations, we have placed the following key points at the center of our thinking going forward:
- Define the scope of the campaign: The challenge in front of us is to demonstrate to the Brooks community how the two phases of the campaign will get us closer to delivering on our mission more of the time. In the coming months, we will map out the ways in which each of the campaign projects will impact the educational experiences of our students. Equally important, we will sharpen our answer to the question, “Why Brooks? Why now?”
- Establish a timeline: A number of Summit attendees asked about a timeline for the campaign. Our goal is to complete the Nucleus Phase of the campaign, which will raise $48 million, by October 2017. We have already raised $18 million toward this goal. The second part of the campaign — the Endowment Phase — will raise an additional $52 million and will last between three and five years. We are still assessing our constituency’s inclination and ability to support a campaign of this magnitude, which will give us a better sense of how long it will take to attain our fundraising goal.
- Schedule additional Summit gatherings: We were so encouraged by the enthusiasm and support at the Summit that we plan to replicate that experience, perhaps on a smaller scale. In mid-November, we will gather with a group of alumni and parents prior to the New York reception to talk through our campaign vision. We are also exploring the possibility of hosting an on-campus event in February and another during Alumni Weekend in May.
- Expand the net: As we work to include more members of the Brooks community in this campaign, we need your help. If you are willing to host a Summit-like event and can bring together 10 or more people, we would be thrilled to join you and share our vision for Brooks.
