Mulvey ’24 Makes Headlines with Impressive Performances on the Court

Timmy Mulvey ’24, a sophomore guard for the Babson College men’s basketball team, is making headlines this winter, as he has been named the NEWMAC (New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference) Offensive Player of the Week twice, and tied a program record for three-pointers made in a game.

The team made exciting news, too, on Sunday when they defeated Wheaton College in the NEWMAC Tournament finals, 81-56 — with 18 of those points from Mulvey. Next up? NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship, which Babson automatically qualified for.

Mulvey tied the program record for three pointers made in a game this January, when he dropped eight three-pointers for 24 points in a 73-55 win against Wheaton College.

“I had no idea it even happened until someone on the team told me a couple of days after the game,” said Mulvey. “It was pretty cool and nice to know that I have a spot in the record books.”

Three games earlier, he was named the NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week (for the week ending February 1st) after a 32-point performance in a 73-62 victory over Clark University. Mulvey knocked down six three-pointers and had 17 first-half points in the game.

He also earned another NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week nod back in November, when he had two big games that included an at-the-time season high of 22 points in a win against the No. 4-ranked team in the country, Tufts University.

“It’s awesome to get those nominations but I’m just focused on trying to get better and work on some technical things to take my game to the next level,” Mulvey said. “The biggest challenge for me when I arrived was having to compete with players who all have elite skillsets, great athleticism, etc., so that is definitely what pushes me. It’s nice to be acknowledged but I’m just trying to be the best player and teammate that I can be.”

Currently one of the top three-point shooters in all of Division III hoops, having made 74 of his 172 attempts this winter, for a shooting percentage of .430, he’s clearly succeeding.

Mulvey averages just under 33 minutes per game and 15.3 points per game and was named the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in his freshman campaign last season (when he averaged 9.5 points, 2.4 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 24 games).

At Brooks, he was an All-ISL and All-NEPSAC nominee in his fifth-form and sixth-form year
