Meet our new Dean of Residential Life and Girls Soccer Coach

Brooks School is thrilled to announce the appointment of Brendon Barrios as associate dean of student and residential life, history teacher and the head coach of Brooks’ girls 1st soccer program.

“My family and I are truly excited to join Brooks School and I am so grateful for the opportunity,” said Barrios, who is moving to campus this summer from Virginia with his wife Madalyn and their children, Sloane, 5, Winnie, 3, and twins Beatrice and Sebastian, who were born just two weeks ago.

“Brooks has an outstanding culture and a strong tradition of success on the field. I simply hope to continue stewarding both,” he added. “I look forward to working with our student-athletes every day to build on that foundation and contribute to a program that values both excellence and community. In Virginia, Barrios most recently served as the dean of student life at Virginia Episcopal School, where he spent five years working with students and leading the boys and girls varsity soccer programs, revitalizing both teams and establishing a culture centered on excellence, accountability and player development.

During his tenure, the girls program earned three consecutive VISAA state playoff appearances, reached three conference semifinals, posted two double-digit-win seasons and advanced to the VISAA state quarterfinals in 2025, while finishing sixth in the state rankings.

On the boys’ side, he guided the program back to the VISAA state playoffs for the first time in two years and helped the team finish the 2025-2026 season ranked 10th in the state.

Barrios has also coached extensively at the club level — with Eastern FC, New York Rush and Virginia Rush — and holds the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National "C" License, eight special topics diplomas from United Soccer Coaches (including the National Federation of State High School Associations diploma) and certification from the English Football Association.

His previous education experience includes leadership, coaching and history- and Spanish-teaching positions at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York and St. Anne's-Belfield in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Barrios' administrative experience is no less impressive. While dean of student life at Virginia Episcopal School, he oversaw and was responsible for a student body of 270, ran leadership programming and helped support all aspects of residential life as well as student activities.

As a student himself, Barrios earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in international relations, with a focus on conflict and cooperation in the Middle East, from Old Dominion University.

“We are thrilled for the impact he will have both as the leader of our girls 1st soccer team and as a leader of our residential life team,” said Brooks’ Director of Athletics Andrea Heinze about the appointment. “Brendon’s track record of building successful programs, developing student-athletes and fostering meaningful relationships makes him an outstanding fit for the Brooks community.”
