Football Opens Season with 42-0 Victory Over Roxbury Latin

Football Opens Season with 42-0 Victory Over Roxbury Latin

After a one-point loss to The Roxbury Latin School on the road last year, Brooks' 1st football team left little doubt about their motivation to win in Saturday's season opener at home on Anna K. Trustey Memorial Field — they earned a 42-0 victory.

Despite heavy wind and rain throughout the afternoon, Brooks took control early, building a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and adding three more touchdowns before halftime.

Captain Liam Corman '27 led the way, rushing for 149 yards and four touchdowns, including a 65-yard burst that extended Brooks' lead over the Foxes in the opening quarter.

Brooks finished with 247 rushing yards and 289 yards of total offense. Quarterback Harrison Kucharski '28 added touchdown passes to Christian McGrail '27 and CJ Ford '28.

The Brooks defense was just as effective, keeping Roxbury Latin off the scoreboard throughout the afternoon. The visitors finished with just 14 total yards and two first downs, while Brooks forced two turnovers.

Harry Nwobi '28 and captain Jonathan Stokes '27 led a strong tackling effort as the defense maintained its intensity from start to finish.

Miles Schrodel '28 was perfect in the kicking game, converting all six of his PAT attempts.

The victory also marked the first win for new Head Coach Spencer Emerson at Brooks and offered an early glimpse of what he hopes will define the team this season.

“Our group is resilient and really understands how to execute a specific game plan. It’s very encouraging,” he said. “What I liked most was how excited the players were for one another. Most guys were more fired up for their teammate making a play than they were for themselves. It was amazing to see.”

Up next for Brooks, the team will hit the road to face Thayer Academy on October 3 with a 3 p.m. kickoff. Thayer enters the matchup coming off a 28-14 loss to Lawrence Academy, while Brooks will be looking to avenge their 27-14 loss to Thayer at home last season.
