The Bates College field hockey team took home its first-ever New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championship in November, with Elena Agosti ’23 contributing to the program's impressive victories in a big way.

The North Andover native and junior midfielder started every game for the Bobcats this season and made a crucial play in the championship game that led to the game-winning goal. As a midfielder, Agosti was part of a defensive unit that went on a historic run, posting a shutout in all three games of the tournament.

“Winning the NESCAC for the first time in Bates history was beyond incredible,” Agosti said. “In my three years at Bates, we’ve made program history in some way each year, which has been amazing but this was something else entirely. No one ever expected us to win, so it was insane to bring this win home to the community.”
“We had such a special team this year, built on family and playing every day just for one more day together, so winning the NESCAC made it that much more meaningful,” she added.

As the NESCAC champion, the Bobcats earned a first-round bye in the NCAA DIII Field Hockey championship, where Agosti and the rest of the team secured a fourth consecutive shutout before finally bowing out to the eventual national champion Tufts University in the third round.
While at Brooks, Agosti reached the NEPSAC tournament with the field hockey team in all three seasons of her career (her sophomore season was cancelled due to COVID) and took home a NEPSAC Class B title with the team in 2021. She was an All-ISL and All-NEPSAC recipient and also lettered with the crew team.

As a freshman at Bates, she was named to the ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA NCAA Division III National Academic Squad, as well.
