Boys 1st Soccer Earns Two Wins in Season Opening Weekend
Coming off a 10-0 season-opening victory over New Hampton School, the Brooks boys soccer team faced a different challenge Sunday at the MAP Showcase at Suffield Academy, taking on Class A opponent Kent School in their second game in as many days.
Despite the quick turnaround and difficult conditions, Brooks controlled much of the match, generating more than 30 shots and nine corners while consistently creating opportunities and keeping Kent School's squad under pressure.
Latu Kayira '27 was dangerous throughout the afternoon, combining particularly well with Fernando Rivas Lora '27 (shown below in photo from a prior game) down the left side. Damian Pagliuca '29 and Vincent Pagliuca '29 also provided consistent service from wide areas as Brooks continued to create chances.

The game remained scoreless deep into the second half. Kent's goalkeeper made several impressive saves, while a steady rain and slick turf created a fast surface that added another challenge for both teams.
Brooks remained patient, however, and finally found the breakthrough in the 67th minute. Kayira played a ball over the top for Chase Filippetti-Daly '29, who got behind the Kent center back as the goalkeeper came off his line. Filippetti-Daly showed excellent composure, reaching out with his right foot to control the ball just before the goalkeeper could collect it. His touch took the keeper out of the play, leaving him to calmly finish into the open net and give Brooks a 1-0 lead.
From there, Brooks remained composed and continued to manage the game as Kent searched for an equalizer. The team never appeared rattled and continued to control the match through the final minutes.
In the final minute, Damian Pagliuca found Kayira at the top of the box. The Brooks captain settled himself before unleashing a left-footed strike into the upper-right corner, doubling the lead and securing a 2-0 victory.
