Boston Globe Honors Two Brooks Athletes

Summer Warren ‘26 and Tristan Yepdo ‘26 were among 22 Massachusetts high school graduates honored at the 40th annual Globe Foundation/Richard J. Phelps Scholar Athlete Award ceremony on June 16 at Fenway Park.

The program recognizes seniors from seven MIAA districts, the city of Boston and Eastern Massachusetts prep schools with a $4,000 scholarship towards their college tuition. It was started by Richard J. Phelps, a 1946 graduate of Phillips Academy in Andover, 40 years ago. Phelps spoke at the event and chatted with award winners after the ceremony. 

“There is also something special about receiving this award from a fellow NEPSAC alum who went to school right down the road,” Warren said. “It’s definitely special in so many different ways.” 

Warren was a three-sport, 1st team athlete in her fourth-form, fifth-form, and sixth-form years, finishing her Brooks career with 11 varsity letters. She played a critical role for the volleyball team, was the star player of the basketball team and a key piece of the outfielding unit on the softball squad.

At Smith College this winter, she will play on the basketball team, which finished the season this year undefeated in their conference.

“It was really cool to see Fenway Park like that and to be part of an amazing group of high school seniors is a complete honor,” she said of the ceremony. “I was blown away by the accomplishments of every kid there.”

Yepdo was also recognized at the event, though he was unable to attend the ceremony due to preseason football camp at Lehigh University, where he will attend college this fall.

A captain of the football and basketball teams in his sixth-form year, he served as Brooks’ senior school prefect, holds the school record for tackles in a season in his sixth-form year, and was a major part of the boys basketball team's incredible run to a Class B championship in 2025.

“Tristan has made an extraordinary impact on the Brooks football program over the past four years,” said his former Head Coach Pat Foley. “He leaves Brooks as the school's all-time leading tackler with 186 career tackles, a testament to both his talent and remarkable consistency.”

Yepdo’s legacy, though, extends far beyond the records he set and the games he helped win. “The standards he established, the relationships he built and the example he set will continue to influence this program for years to come,” said Foley. “To say he will be missed would be a tremendous understatement.”
