Overview
Softball - Girls 1st Team
Brooks 1st (varsity) softball has a long history of success, finishing first in the Independent School League (ISL) seven times. The team's success is a direct result of a talented, hard working, dedicated group of players who love the game and who compete hard. The girls battle hard in every game they play, never lacking in spirit or effort. The lessons of sportsmanship, teamwork, self-discipline and commitment are values the girls share on and off the field.
Brooks plays in the competitive Independent School League. Softball in the league has grown tremendously over the years with outstanding talent and solid competition spread throughout. In addition to league games, Brooks co-hosts the Big East Invitational Tournament (eight teams), and plays against several larger independent schools including Phillips Academy, Phillips Exeter, St. Paul’s School and Worcester Academy. When possible, the team travels to Florida during spring break for preseason training (We went to Universal Studios in Orlando in 2022 and 2023). The trip provides an incredible opportunity to prepare for the season and for the players and coaches to enjoy time together on and off the field.
The softball program seeks to create a strong bond of teamwork with which players work together on and off the field to be a cohesive group with a feisty and competitive drive. The connections made on the field and throughout school are everlasting. This includes Brittany Hart ’09 (ISL MVP in 2009, and Bryant University D1 pitcher) who returns to campus each spring to help coach this aspiring group.
Coaches
-
CoachAndrea Perotti Heinze has been at Brooks since 1992 and has taught everything from Algebra I to Pre-Calculus. She has a B.A. from Hamilton College, and an M.S. in Health and Wellness Management from Merrimack College. After serving for many years as the associate head for student affairs, Heinze, who coaches girls 1st softball, became the director of athletics in 2023. She was born in northwestern Connecticut, and likes running, cooking, and hiking. She and her husband Paul, a teacher, live on campus and have two sons, Ben and Andrew.
-
CoachBritt Hart graduated from Brooks in 2009. During her time, she was a soccer, basketball, and softball team captain and named league MVP for softball during her senior season. Hart was named to the Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic teams in 2007 and 2009. Following her high school career, Hart was a four-year starter for Bryant University. She was a mainstay inside the pitching circle over the course of her career, and is fifth all-time in wins and strikeouts. Hart works full-time as a marketing manager but is excited to be back on the Brooks campus coaching the sport she loves.
