Overview
Ice Hockey - Boys 2nd Team
The Brooks hockey team competes in the competitive ISL, playing league games against opponents that include St. George’s, St. Mark’s and Middlesex. The balance of their schedule is made up of non-league games against opponents such as Andover, Governor’s, BB&N, St. Sebastian’s, Pingree, Berwick and Worcester.
The hockey program at Brooks provides its players the opportunity to develop through daily practice and off-ice training. A typical week includes two games, four practices, two off-ice workouts and two video sessions. The Brooks athletics facilities are exceptional, and athletes at all levels have the opportunity to use the fully equipped weight room to improve strength and conditioning.
Coaches

CoachJohn Cunningham graduated from Connecticut College in the spring of 2017 and began working at The Loomis Chaffee School that fall as the sports information director. He also served as the assistant coach of the boys varsity ice hockey team, associate head coach of the boys varsity lacrosse team and as a dorm head in a boys dorm on campus. In the fall of 2023 Cunningham arrived at Brooks, where he lives with his wife Jordan, their son Benjamin and dog Finnegan. When he isn’t teaching Self in Community or coaching, he is on walks with his family or trying to find time to get to the golf course.

CoachTimothy Benson, a graduate of Union College, joined the English department after a year of pursuing graduate work at Dartmouth College. Before going to Dartmouth, Benson taught English at Wyoming Seminary Preparatory School in Kingston, Pennsylvania. He also coached ice hockey and lacrosse at Seminary. In 2024, Benson was appointed Dean of Faculty. His academic interests include Environmental Literature and Modern American Literature. When not in the classroom, Benson heads to the outdoors. He has worked as a fly-fishing guide in Montana during each of the last several summers. Benson lives on campus with his wife Elizabeth and their two young sons.

CoachDave Ries has been a boys ice hockey coach at Brooks School for more than 10 years. A native of Pittsburgh, Penn., he is a graduate of Avon Old Farms and College of the Holy Cross. Previously, he taught and coached at Avon Old Farms, coached at Tufts University and worked with both U.S.A. Hockey and Mass. Hockey. Ries also coaches instructional golf and lives in the PBA dormitory with his wife Jenelle and their three young children: Ellie, Dave and Lucy.
