A look inside the Brooks Classroom
Please choose one of the three alumni learning opportunities below:
Alone: Winslow Homer's masterpieces The Fog Warning and The Gulf Stream
Taught by John Haile
Painted fourteen years apart, these two remarkable paintings suggest some interesting things about the human condition and the history of post-Civil War America. Sign up to participate in a Q&A on these two significant paintings.
COVID-19: The Quest for Herd Immunity
Taught by Laura Hajdukiewicz P’15, P’17, P’19
Tired of hearing about COVID and wondering if the end of the pandemic is near? Have you been vaccinated (or thinking about getting vaccinated) and wondering about the different options out there? Anatomy and Physiology teacher, Laura Hajdukiewicz, invites you to learn more about the structure and function of the SARS-COV2 virus. We will then explore the different vaccines that are currently available and how they work with the immune system to establish immunity against the virus. We will discuss herd immunity and how we hope to achieve it using vaccination. If time allows, we can delve into the controversies and myths surrounding the vaccines and herd immunity. If you are in a health or science field and have a background in this subject, please join us to contribute your own experiences to the discussion.
What is Literature and Why do we Like It?
Taught by Dr. Nova Seals P’24
A sampling of a course that will be taught next year, join faculty member Dr. Nova Seals to consider the relationship between literature and philosophy, as well as how they influence, interact, and intersect with each other. As we philosophically consider literature--what it is, how we interpret it, and what we can learn from it--we will also consider the ways that authors have creatively presented philosophical concepts. Come to this session with the title of a favorite piece of literature/book or one that you really enjoyed and why!
