Alumni Weekend Class of 1969

Hello, class of 1969!

The reunion committee and I are surprised and pleased that so many of our compatriots are reporting to us that they will journey to North Andover to be with us during our 50th reunion from May 17-18.

As you know, spouses and partners are most welcome for this reunion. There will be lots of follow-up to you from the school. During the weekend, there will be lots to do, but I know classmate Patrick Curley and I are 100 percent in agreement that if you haven’t been back to campus in recent years, you will be absolutely blown away at the high quality changes everywhere. It is not the same place we attended, not by miles. Everything the school has done is first-class. I won’t bore you with the list of physical changes, but I would predict that you will be amazed and pleased at how the place has transformed itself.

When I am on campus in recent years, I am wondering if in a future life I can re-do things and start over. The students are simply wonderful and having the girls as part of the mix is a welcome change. This is a different place now for sure.

Back to the matter of reunion programming. There will be lots of stuff going on during the day Friday and Saturday, but the school is traditionally kind to the 50th reunion classes and hosts a private dinner Friday evening for our group at the Robert Lehman Arts Center (connected to the very handsome Henry Luce III Library). On Saturday we will be at the Essex County Club in Manchester-by-the-sea, a wonderful golf club. I am grateful to ECC member Cliff Hughes for making this possible. Brooks is looking into the idea of providing a bus to the event to facilitate. Stand by for more on that for details, but the point is that we will not be asked to be part of a reunion mob scene involving all of the other classes for most of the time.

I would be remiss if I didn’t make mention that the Friday dinner will start with cocktails at the home of the head of school, John Packard, who has been at Brooks for more than 25 years (if you include his service as a distinguished teacher of history). John is a perfect of head of school. As you know, I have spent my entire career working for top-of-grade schools and I can assure you that Brooks is incredibly fortunate to have such a thoughtful and wonderful leader at the helm. I am sure this will not be your usual reunion cocktail party and that you will enjoy having a sense of John and his wife Kim.

We will be in touch closer to the weekend, but pencil us in!
