Students on the Forefront

Welcome to Brooks!

Internships at work

Right at the time when students are considering more deeply, “What do I want to do?” Brooks provides the opportunity to explore career paths and, quite literally, try out one through our professional summer internship program, Students on the Forefront.

The program opens doors for rising sixth-form (between grades 11 and 12) students to gain experience working in research laboratories, hospitals and hubs of engineering, arts and technological innovation.

"I've been asked if I'm in med. school about six times. It's fun to respond with, 'Nope, I'm actually in high school.'"

The image shows a group of people in a meeting room, with a man in a suit standing in front of a projection screen displaying what appears to be a presentation or document.

Each supervised internship exposes students to research, technology, and advanced studies in the sciences, humanities, finance and the arts while giving them insight into what it’s really like to immerse themselves in that field or occupation.

Harvard Summer School

For students in one of the Boston-based offerings who do not live in the area, Brooks arranges housing through Harvard Summer School. The bonus: Students will take one Harvard class for college credit in addition to completing their Forefront internship.

Summer 2026 Internship Areas

2026 Brooks Students on the Forefront interns will be working in the following areas:

“My internship allowed me to look beyond the classroom and experience what it is like to be in the field professionally.
They don't teach you how tiring it is to be in surgery for 10+ hours at a time, or how long and how much precision it takes to develop a single microscope slide in school!”
Welcome to Brooks!

2026 Program Timeline

  • January 27: Internship Opportunities catalog published
  • January 29:  Application window opened with an information meeting
  • February 16:  Applications due
  • February 23-27:  Interviews on campus
  • March 6:  Decisions released: Congratulations, Brooksians!

Brooks provided me with intellectual opportunities that I never knew I could have, with biotechnology experiments and anatomy dissections piquing my interest in science. The Students on the Forefront program gave me one of the most incredible educational experiences as I made connections with healthcare professionals as I continued learning.”
